Nellore chepala pulusu is a traditional fish curry from the Nellore region of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is made with fish cooked in a sour and spicy tamarind broth. Here is a recipe you can try:
Ingredients:
- 1 pound fish
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
- 1 tablespoon coriander seeds
- 1 tablespoon cumin powder
- 1 tablespoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
- Raw mango if available
- 1/2 cup water
- Salt to taste
Instructions:
- Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add the mustard seeds and allow them to crackle.
- Add the cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, and coriander seeds, and fry for a few seconds.
- Add the cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and red chili powder, and fry for a few more seconds.
- Add the tamarind paste and water, and stir to mix well.
- Add the fish, raw mango and salt. Don't stir because fish will get broken into small pieces.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer until the fish is cooked through and tender, about 10-15 minutes.
- Serve the chepala pulusu hot with rice or roti. Enjoy!
