Nellore chepala pulusu is a traditional fish curry from the Nellore region of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is made with fish cooked in a sour and spicy tamarind broth. Here is a recipe you can try:

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound fish
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
  • 1 tablespoon coriander seeds
  • 1 tablespoon cumin powder
  • 1 tablespoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
  • Raw mango if available
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add the mustard seeds and allow them to crackle.
  3. Add the cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, and coriander seeds, and fry for a few seconds.
  4. Add the cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and red chili powder, and fry for a few more seconds.
  5. Add the tamarind paste and water, and stir to mix well.
  6. Add the fish, raw mango and salt. Don't stir because fish will get broken into small pieces.
  7. Reduce the heat to low and simmer until the fish is cooked through and tender, about 10-15 minutes.
  8. Serve the chepala pulusu hot with rice or roti. Enjoy!
